Diving into App Design

I first discovered the design of mobile applications while undertaking my university degree in Digital Media Design, and was drawn in to the creativity and excitement of the process of designing an app. Once I had discovered my knack for app design, I decided to stick to this pathway for the last two years of my degree, to further my overall skill in design and user experience.

Throughout my learning, I would spend hours scrolling through wireframes, apps and websites to spot some of the finest designed user interfaces and discovering the elements that make them engaging and functional for end-users. From substantial research and time learning from mentors, peers and online resources, I noticed these aspects below that are crucial for designing a mobile or web app to a high standard:

- User-Friendly Design: simplicity, functionality and ease of use

- Performance: speed and responsiveness

- Cross Platform: most excellent apps provide a smooth experience across iOS and Android.

During my learning, I was able to gain valuable experience and skill with Figma, a UX and UI prototyping tool which is collaboration friendly, has a diverse design system and plenty of plugins to utilise. Learning my way around this software is what really helped me gain a deeper understanding into app and web design, and further my knowledge in user experience.

Since joining MoF, I have been able to apply areas of my knowledge I gained from university into working on our own website. This includes creating low-fidelity wireframes for version two of our site, along with research and brainstorming techniques to find new web design inspiration. I have also been able to apply areas of my user experience expertise when it comes to our CLM (content loop marketing) decks for our pharma clients. For example, carrying out user testing for these decks to make sure that they are functional and user friendly for sales reps. Additionally, I developed my own CLM deck to showcase my coding skills, where I had to balance design choices with practicality, ensuring the HTML and CSS remained simple and user centric.

My aim is to introduce app design and development within our areas of expertise and services that we offer to our clients, I would aspire to create these goals and process’s:

- User-Centric Design: the same with our own website (designed internally), we want to design apps that are visually appealing, user friendly, and innovative.

- Custom Built Solutions: We cater for a large variety of industries, so we endeavour to create tailor-made solutions, rather than relying on a generic user interface templates.

Our journey into mobile design and development is just beginning, and I am excited about the future as we venture into this territory.I strongly believe that our ever-growing skills in digital design, and passionfor learning new skills, places us in a position to deliver user-friendly, highly functional applications, on mobile or web.
